Get new experiences by taking a batik class in Bali
Many people think that learning to make batik can only be done in Java. It seems that this assumption must be eliminated, because many islands in Indonesia also have batik as their trademark, one of which is Bali. Batik class in Bali now has started to emerge along with the popularity of Balinese batik motifs worldwide. Many tourists are willing to spend their money just to be able to go to Bali and then learn batik. In addition to learning to make batik, they will also be taught to understand the philosophy of each batik motif that will be made. The following are step by step taught when taking batik classes.
Choosing batik motifs
For those of you who are not very good at drawing, you don’t need to worry, because in your batik class you will be taught to make motifs by following the patterns provided. The motifs of Balinese batik are very diverse, ranging from the Buketan motif, the Ulam Sari Mas motif, the Singa Barong motif, the Balinese Dancer motif, the Abyor Hokokai motif, and the Pisan motif. Maybe at the beginning of the drawing, you are not required to choose the motifs mentioned above because of the high level of difficulty. Later you will be provided with special and simple images such as pictures of animals, plants, landscapes, etc. Choose an image that you like and think it is easy for you to form into a pattern.
Draw by following the pattern
After you find a suitable picture, the next step is you will be directed to draw on a table that has been provided. On the table, thin cotton cloth was prepared which was slightly more than the design paper that had been given. Next, the cotton cloth was laid on the paper and you can start copying the patterns on the paper. During the drawing process, there is no need to boldly scratch it so that it is easily removed and repaired. Also, the pattern will also be thick with wax to form a beautiful batik cloth.
Taught to make a line with a canting
After the pattern is formed, you will enter the actual stage of thickening the line with wax using a special tool called a canting. Canting is the main tool in making batik, not only for Balinese batik but also for all types of batik in Indonesia. Begin to slam from the top left to the bottom of the fabric. Try to take the candle little by little so that it doesn’t spill on your body because the candle is hot. This is for some people who just feel the batik class might feel tiring and boring. So it is not surprising that batik made by manual processes will cost a little more.
