The Art of Batik in Bali

Because there are a lot of things that you could do there. You could explore the natural beauty of Bali, you could enjoy the traditional culture there. Furthermore, if you are a creative soul, you really need to join Bali Batik Class where you could learn the history of Batik Bali, the types of Batik Bali, and most importantly, you could learn how to make them.

When we heard the word Batik, then the most sensible thing to ask is what is Batik? Actually, Batik is a method or technique that is used to create coloured design on textiles by dyeing them in which there is must be a wax that is applied first to the portion that will be left ‘undyed’. Moreover, originally, this method or technique is used in Java.

Many experts said that Batik was originally reserved as a  form of arts for Javanese royalty. They said so because many of the original designs or patterns that were shaped by motifs that only worn by royalty that are coming from the Sultan’s Palace in Yogyakarta. Moreover, the authentic colour of Batik is made from plants and trees that only have three varieties. The colour blue is made from Indigo plant, the colour of brown is made from the tree of Soga, and the red is made from Morinda Citrifolia.

Here are some steps on how to make a batik that hopefully could spark your interest in making them on your own, which of course that you could do by joining Batik Class during your holiday in Bali. Firstly, you need to draw your motifs on the fabric, or you could pick the pre-made patterns rather than drawing it on your own. And then, draw wax over your patterns to part the colours before you start dyeing them. After that stamp your fabric with the design that you want. And then, choose colours from the original dyes colours palette. Next, paint on your design. And then, you need to dry your painting for about one hour. After it dried, you need to soak it to the cold water to bring out the colour, and then soak it in warm water to remove the excess wax, and soak it with cool water for one more time to lock the colour. Finally, your Batik Bali is done and completed.
