Making batik is a very exciting activity. We cannot make batik anywhere because we need special guidelines to produce good quality batik. At present, batik classes have been opened in various areas in Indonesia. This aims to increase batik interest in the community. Here are the things you will learn in the batik class.

Choose the Batik Motif that you want

In general, many choices of batik motifs that you can choose in the batik class. So you don’t need to worry because you can’t draw because the batik motif has been prepared. In general, the Batik class will provide A5-sized paper for the motifs you want.

Copying the Batik Motif of your choice

When you have chosen the motif you want, you will start copying the motif you chose using cotton fabric that is almost the same size as A5 paper so that it will be easier for you to copy the batik motif. You do not need to trace it thickly because the motif that has been copied will be thickened using wax.

Making batik using Canting

When you have finished copying, the activity of thickening the line using beautiful begins. Canting is the most important equipment to make batik. Traditional canting for batik is a small tool made of copper and bamboo as a handle. When doing this activity, the canting position must be 45 degrees so that the wax does not drip. The duration for one thick batik must be done quickly, that is 10 seconds because the wax quickly hardens.

Coloring Batik

The next step is coloring batik cloth. This activity is carried out using a brush so that we can choose the color of batik according to what we want. Coloring batik must be done with the patient because the color does not seep out.

Batik in the sun

After coloring batik, batik cloth was dried in the sun so that the color applied was permeated to create a beautiful blend of colors in the batik cloth. Drying batik is very dependent on the condition of the weather at that time. When it’s dry, we can see whether the color on the batik cloth is satisfactory or not. If you think you haven’t, you can dye your batik cloth again by adding colors that you feel are lacking. After the second coloring activity is finished, you can dry the cloth that has been dyed again. This activity can be done many times to produce good batik. After drying, the next activity is boiling batik with a chemical solution so that some colors come out so that the resulting color is more attractive.
